TRAINING GUIDELINES FOR COACHES
Before training, mark out your training perimeter with one colour of cones - this defines the training area for the kids and helps parents find their respective age groups.
Coaching equipment will be provided on training nights - please talk to Ali.
Coaches are responsible for collecting and returning all allocated equipment every training night.
Keep training times sharp to one hour during pre-season.
Collect the names of all players and instruct parents to go into the club to register for this season.
Do not allow your kids to ran-off after training. Parents are to collect their kids from the playing field at all times.
Make sure kids wear shin pads and bring their own water bottle.
We, as a club, are focused on developing our kids. Yes, we want to win games however this must not be objective!
technical coaching tips
Keep training simple! Kids like to have fun so do not overcomplicate it with hard drills that they cannot follow.
Break your training into 3 components:
Beginning (15mins) - fun game/exercise with balls to get the kids moving
Middle (15mins) - Drills that introduce the skill you might be focused on, such as ‘Running with the ball’
End (15mins) - A small sided game to allow the kids to have fun and try the skills
Give the kids a drink break in between these components - maximum 2 mins and move onto the next exercise.
There are four core skills the national curriculum promotes: Running with the ball, First touch, Striking the ball & 1v1. Focus on one of these themes each night and alternate exercises week to week.
Downloaded a yearly session plan here - these can be used for any age group with the level of difficult changing as you get older
Example training session: Theme: Running with the Balll
